Definitions of ThruText-specific terms
This guide contains keywords used throughout the texting side of the GetThru platform. Check out more about the calling side by visiting the ThruTalk Glossary. To get an overview of functions shared between both talk & text, please be sure to read our main GetThru Glossary.
- Admin Dashboard - The homepage of the admin account where campaigns are created, groups are uploaded, and users are invited.
- User- The base permission level in ThruText. Users can only send and receive messages.
- Texter/Message Sender - Any user assigned to a campaign to send messages, regardless of their permission level (includes moderators, admins, and account owners).
- Landlines - Numbers that cannot receive text messages. These are detected by a third-party vendor during phone number verification.
- 10DLC
- 10DLC - Stands for "10 Digit Long Code." A system created by carriers to secure A2P (Application-to-Person) messaging from spam. Includes both brand registration (who is sending the messages) and use case registration (what types of messages are being sent).
- Brand Registration - Provides The Campaign Registry (TCR) with basic information about your organization, like your organization's legal name, legal address, and Employee Identification Number (EIN).
- Campaign Verify - Required for political campaigns, parties, and PACs to obtain a Campaign Verify Token.
- Use Case Registration - Step completed after brand registration. Identifies your message type to carriers.
- Manual Vetting - A third-party review of your use case to confirm compliant practices. This includes a review of your organization's website, particularly for a compliant contact source, privacy policy, and terms & conditions.
- Contact Source - An opt-in mechanism on your organization's website - somewhere a user can knowingly opt-in to receiving text messages.
- Privacy Policy - A page that explains how your organization collects, uses, and shares user data.
- Terms & Conditions - A page explaining the terms for opting in to receiving text messages, such as what kind of messages you'll receive, message frequency, message & data rates, and how to opt out.
- Message Types
- Short Messaging Service (SMS) - A standard text messaging format used to send plain text messages without media. In ThruText, Messages longer than about 160 characters are broken into smaller parts called segments.
- Segment - A portion of a message. The number of segments depends on the characters and encoding. Segments are represented on analytics and exports.
- Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS)- Text messages with attached media (e.g., images, GIFs, videos, or PDFs). The message body can be up to 1600 characters.
- Media Library - Page where admins upload and manage files used in MMS messages..
- Initial Message - The first message sent to a contact in a campaign.
- Replies - Incoming messages from contacts or outgoing responses from message senders.
- Followup - Additional messages sent to some or all recipients on an active campaign after the initial message.

- Campaigns
- Campaigns - The admin term for the actual text bank. The workspace where you define your contact list, messaging, survey questions, and assign message senders.
- Campaign Index Page - A page that lists all campaigns by status and provides access to each one.
- Targeting - Selecting the group(s) of contacts to include in a campaign.
- Base Segment - The foundational group of contacts required to launch a campaign.
- Advanced Targeting - Adding or removing segments or using filters to refine your targeting.
- Campaign Status
- Draft Campaign - A campaign that is in the process of being created that hasn't been launched. Campaigns become drafts after the first step of campaign creation is completed.
- Active Campaign - A campaign that has been launched and is ready for message sending
- Paused Campaign - A live campaign that has been set to inactive status. Contacts can still respond, but senders can’t initiate new messages.
- Archived Campaign - A completed campaign. Once archived, text messages can no longer be sent or received in that campaign.
- Draft Campaign - A campaign that is in the process of being created that hasn't been launched. Campaigns become drafts after the first step of campaign creation is completed.
- Script - a template for the initial message to be sent to all contacts in your campaign.
- Message Encoding - The character set used to send your message, which affects segment count.
- Provisioning - Carrier approval process for texting numbers before they can be used. Messages can't be sent on a campaign before provisioning is complete.
- Campaign Summary Page - The dashboard shown after launching a campaign, used to monitor and manage progress.
- Assignment - The allotment of text messages given to a Message Sender when they text for an active campaign.
- Message Errors - Messages that were not accepted by our provider. Messages with errors may or may not be billable.
- Conversations
- Conversations - When you launch a campaign, a conversation is created for every active contact in your targeting. This groups all the messages between the sender and the contact in a thread.
- Conversations Overview - The main page for viewing all ongoing conversations within a campaign.
- Reassigning Conversations - Moving a conversation from one sender to another.
- Bulk Reassign - Moves multiple conversations across a campaign to different senders.
- Self-Assigning Conversations - Enables message senders to claim new conversations by clicking "Request Conversations".
- Opt Outs
- Opt Out - When a contact is removed from future campaign messages.
- Manual Opt Out - Admins or message senders manually exclude a contact from the messenger or admin dashboard.
- Auto Opt Out - Automatically excludes contacts who reply with opt-out keywords or phrases.
- Global Opt-Out Message - A standardized message sent when a contact is opted out.
- ThruText Tools - The ThruText tools used to make changes to your account, such as Global Recommended Replies, Global Surveys, Opt Out Management, and more.
- Recommended Reply
- Recommended Reply - Responses that are pre-written to help answer text messages efficiently and consistently.
- Campaign Recommended Reply - Created during campaign setup and only used in that campaign.
- Global Recommended Reply - Available in every campaign and marked with a globe icon.
- Saved Replies - Pre-filled responses created within the Messenger by users of any permission level. Texters can create personal replies only visible to them.
- Survey Question
- Survey Question - A data collection tool used by senders. Responses are saved in the platform but not sent to contacts.
- Campaign Survey Question - Created during campaign setup and used only within that campaign.
- Global Survey Question - Set in ThruText Tools and available to all campaigns.
- VAN Synced Survey Questions - Survey brought over using a VAN integration. These surveys are created in VAN and brought over during the Campaign creation process.
- Messenger
- Messenger - The interface used by Message Senders to send messages within a ThruText assignment.
- User Messenger - Users with the "user" permission level can only access the user messenger. Accessed by clicking Messenger from the top right corner of the screen and then clicking on an assignment.
- Admin Messenger - Available only to moderators, admins, and account owners. Accessed by clicking Conversations from the Campaign Summary page, and then clicking on a sender. This is distinguished from the user messenger by a yellow banner across the top of the page.
- Hiding Conversations - Removes a conversation from view if no follow-up is needed. Archived conversations can reappear if the contact replies. Admins can view hidden conversations in the admin messenger.
- Message Sending Methods
- Manual Send - Sending messages one-by-one by clicking “Send.” This is the default message sending method for ThruText.
- QuickSend - Sends all initial messages in a sender's assignment with one click. Enabled by request and toggled during campaign creation.
- Bulk Send - Sends all messages from the admin side automatically, without using Messenger.
- Scheduled Send - Allows you to schedule a bulk send for a future time. Messages are sent automatically at the scheduled time without requiring manual action.
- Exports
- Exports - Downloadable data from campaigns. Available in CSV format.
- Campaign Level Exports - Data exports that contain information specific to a single campaign.
- Messages - All inbound and outbound messages for a campaign.
- Conversations - All conversations from a campaign, including message counts and opt out status.
- Surveys - Responses to all survey questions.
- Messages - All inbound and outbound messages for a campaign.
- Account Level Exports - Data exports that include information across all campaigns in your account during a selected date range.
- Campaigns - Overview of all campaigns during a selected date range.
- Messages - Full message history across campaigns.
- Opt Outs - List of all opted-out contacts.
- Surveys - All survey responses across the account.
- Users - List of all account users and their permission levels.
- Tags - Monthly exports that break down ThruText campaign activity by tag. Tags are custom labels you apply to campaigns to help organize and track usage by category.
- Exports - Downloadable data from campaigns. Available in CSV format.
- Usage - Total outbound messages, segments, and unique contacts reached in a calendar month (UTC time).
- Messaged Contacts - The number of contacts who have received at least one message.
