Reviewing a VAN Key's Details and Settings

By selecting a VAN key on the VAN Integration Overview page, admins can view, edit, and delete their key on the VAN Key Details page.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Viewing a valid VAN key

In the header at the top of the VAN Key Details page, the admin can review the GetThru product, the committee-side for which the key is set up, and a green tag with the word "Valid."

Below the headers, a box is displayed with information about the VAN key:

  • Texted Status - Only shown on ThruText keys. The "Texted" status is send to a message recipient's contact history when an initial message is sent.
  • Database Name - The database or organization that generated the API key.
  • Committee Name - The committee that key is assigned to.
    • This information is important for troubleshooting if your organization operates across multiple states or if your organization syncs to different VAN committees throughout the account's lifetime.
  • Key Expiration Date - Sometimes, when a key is created in VAN, it has an expected lifetime and stops functioning after a certain date. Not all keys have expiration dates (see example above.)
    • While that information cannot be edited from the GetThru side, knowing that your key can expire can help you plan your outreach in a given cycle.
  • Key Reference - The last four digits of the VAN key.
    • If you are troubleshooting, please compare these digits with the digits in your VAN committee. If they do not match, this is likely the cause of a VAN sync error.

Viewing an invalid VAN key

If a key has expired, has been regenerated within VAN, or is otherwise invalid, the VAN Key Details page will show the GetThru product, the committee side for which the key is set up, and a red tag with the word "Invalid." At the bottom of the page, the last 4 digits of the VAN key are shown. Additional information like the Database Name or the Expiration Date will be unavailable.

Deleting a VAN key

A key can be deleted by clicking the "Delete" link at the top of the Details page:

Clicking the Delete button will remove the key from the system entirely. The "Delete" action is safe if the key is already invalid, but if the key is still valid, removing the key will cause sync issues.

NOTE - A key can also be deleted from the VAN Integrations Overview page.

Editing a VAN key

By clicking the "Edit" button to the right of the key's status tag, an admin is taken the the VAN Key Edit page.

Admins can make the following edits to a key:

NOTE - GetThru Product cannot be changed as ThruText and ThruTalk keys are not interchangeable, even if they originate from the same VAN committee.

  • "Texted" status - Only shown for ThruText keys. This controls the update synced to a VAN contact's history every time an initial message is sent.
  • Committee Side - Radio buttons for MyVoters and EveryAction/MyCampaign. Some keys only work for MyVoters or MyCampaign. If a key was set up for the wrong committee, it can be switched on this page.
  • API Key - New keys can be copied and pasted into this text input field.

NOTE - Changing active keys between different committees may cause sync issues.
