Using Trackable Links in your ThruText Campaign
Trackable links let you create customized, branded URLs to include in your text messages. Each link uses the account's subdomain, ensuring consistency and brand recognition in every link. When a recipient clicks a trackable link, our system will record the click and which conversation it came from. This makes it easy to monitor engagement and understand how contacts are interacting with your outreach.

Adding a Trackable Link to your Campaign
You can create and add a trackable link while composing your initial message during campaign creation. During the initial message step of campaign creation, click "Add Trackable Link" to begin.
After clicking the button, a modal will appear where you can enter the destination URL your trackable link should redirect to.
The modal only accepts URLs that begin with https:// or http://. If your link doesn’t include that, you’ll see an error. Once you’ve entered a valid link and clicked Add, your new trackable link will appear.
The trackable link for this example is https://demo.gthru.io/0gXXBho, and there are different components to this URL.
- demo - This is your "Trackable Link Branded Subdomain", and it appears first in the URL after https://. By default, it matches your GetThru account subdomain and is unique to each account.
- gthru - This domain is owned by GetThru and is used on every trackable link.
- 0gXXBho - This is a unique identifier generated for the specific campaign.
If you'd like to change the subdomain in your trackable links, reach out to support@getthru.io and ask to change your "Trackable Link Branded Subdomain". The requested subdomain should reflect your organization and the nature of your messaging. In some cases, we may ask you to modify your subdomain for clarity or policy compliance.
After creating your link, click Insert to add it to the Message Text input box. The link will appear as a variable (e.g., %TrackableLink_0gXXBho%), and you can preview how it will look in the message preview section. You can also test the link by clicking it directly from the preview.
You can edit the destination URL during campaign creation, but it cannot be changed after the campaign has launched. Be sure to double-check the link for accuracy and proper redirection before launching your campaign.
You can also add trackable links in the Recommended Replies step of campaign creation. There, you can insert a link into a reply or edit the redirect URL before launch.
Trackable links can't be added to recommended replies after a campaign has launched, so make sure to finalize any recommended replies with links prior to launching.
When adding a trackable link to your message, be sure to include a space immediately before and after the variable. If you place text directly before or after the link variable without a space, some devices may mistakenly include that text as part of the hyperlink. While the link may still redirect correctly, this will prevent the link click from being recorded. To ensure accurate tracking, always leave a space or punctuation mark (such as a period or comma) after the trackable link variable.
Tracking Link Clicks
Each time a recipient clicks a trackable link, the click is recorded. You can view the total number of clicks in the Analytics section of the admin campaign page.
Note that the click count reflects total clicks, not unique contacts who clicked the link. If one person clicks the link three times, it will count as three clicks.
Link clicks are also recorded for each conversation. A unique tracking ID is added to each link for each of your contacts to help associate clicks with individual contacts. In the image below, you can see the tracking ID highlighted in green.
To see which contacts clicked your link, create a Campaign Export of the conversations. See the "link_clicked" column to see how many times a particular link was clicked. It's important to note that a click is recorded anytime a link is visited, so if an admin visits a link that contains a tracking ID, a click will be recorded for that conversation. If you want to preview a trackable link, click one that appears on the admin campaign page, like the example below, as that particular preview prevents tracking.
Note - ThruText takes steps to filter out automated or background link previews so they will not register as recorded link "clicks". For example, mobile devices or apps may automatically scan or pre-load links in the background to generate a preview for the user or check for safety. While these technically register as visits, they are excluded from campaign analytics as they do not reflect real user engagement. As we continue to improve this filtering, your feedback is valuable—please let us know if you notice clicks that seem unusual or inconsistent with expected behavior.
