What Is Self Assignment?

Texters can use the self assignment feature to assign themselves conversations, giving them more control over their workload. It allows you to start texting when you're ready and take on additional conversations at your own pace.

This guide explains how Self Assignment works for texters, how to request conversations, and what to expect depending on how your admin has set up the assignment. For information about setting up or configuring self assign, read this guide for texting admins: Setting Up Self Assignment.

Rules for Self Assignment

  • This feature is only available if your texting admin has enabled it on your assignment.
  • You can only self assign conversations that are unassigned.

Depending on how the assignment is set up, you may receive conversations that are either waiting for the initial message to be sent or conversations that already have replies that need attention.

How to Request Conversations

If self assign is enabled, you’ll see a Request Conversations button when you open the assignment.

When you click the button:

  • You’ll receive a new batch of conversations, based on the batch size set by your texting admin. If you receive too many conversations, reach out to your texting admin to reassign some conversations.
  • If you're joining through a campaign invite link, ThruText will automatically request the first batch for you when you use the URL.
  • You can also use the Request Conversations button on the bottom left corner of the messenger to request conversations.

You'll only see a Request Conversation button if there are no initial messages waiting to be sent in your assignment.

Self Assign will only pull conversations that are Unassigned. If you request conversations and there are none that are unassigned, you'll see an error appear that says No more conversations available.

If you don't receive conversations, ask your texting admin if there are any unassigned conversations.

More Information About Self Assign

  • When the initial messages have already been sent: Your ThruText Admin may send initial messages in the background before the assignment begins. If you request conversations in an assignment like this, you'll receive a full batch of conversations, but only a few will appear in your inbox. This is because ThruText hides conversations without replies and prioritizes actionable conversations. For example, you might receive 300 conversations, but only see 10 if only those contacts replied.
